Feeding the masses……………………….

We all have to eat &  drink, otherwise there will be problems….

I am looking for a coordinator, one for each of the homes to help manage the food and keep up with supplies.  The list of attendees is still not finalized but I am anticipating about 30 family members (and friends).  I comprised a list of suggested food & items to bring to the reunion.  Feel free to add other items to the list.  If you bring any personal items from home that you would like returned, please put your name on it (somewhere).  The reunion carries no insurance so please keep that in mind 🙂

I recommend that whatever item you choose to bring, that you bring enough for 20-30 people, or whatever amount that fits your budget.  This is very important: whatever you are going to bring, please leave a comment as to the item you are bringing so that we all can see who is bringing what.  We don’t want too much of one thing and none of another if we can avoid it.   Since we are arriving on different days, please also mention when you will be arriving to the reunion so that we are not counting on your contribution before you are scheduled to arrive.

See you soon…..

Did you realize the reunion is only 2.5 weeks away??!! We have an amazing number of family members who have committed to come and for some, this will be their 1st reunion since the 1st one. We have Eddy coming from Florida and Natasha and her clan are coming from Canada. There is still time to come to the reunion. We would love to have everyone who wants to come to be able to attend. If you have any circumstances that you would like to discuss with me, you can call me at 310-567-8007 or email me at augustmoon26@aol.com Both my phone number and email can also be used to send money via PayPal.com. If money is an issue, don’t worry about it. We’ll take sweat equity.

We are now in the planning stage, and I will be sending information frequently, so please check in regularly. I have included 2 polls below to make it easy for you to get back to me. It takes a second. We are all busy but please take time to read my email, and respond.

Reunion date: July 2-6. I need to know if you are coming to the reunion and the days you will be here. I need a headcount of everyone in your family who will be attending with you. There’s not much that I can finalize without a count. I need a head count so that we can start organizing the living arrangements, organize activities, organize the food we need to have, and obtain volunteers to help with cooking and cleaning.

This is really the main part of the reunion that has to be organized in the next few weeks. I welcome all input and feedback. Luckily there is a Wal-Mart not too far and on the way to the homes, and plenty of farmers markets around. Everyone will need to contribute in some way. Keeping every one fed and happy is crucial.

Fun in the sun! How much you do and how much you spend is up to you. There will be plenty of of fun activities at the homes. Besides, with so many of us, boredom is not an option. If you plan to sit in a lounging chair sipping your beverage of choice, I do recommend that you bring your own lounging chair 🙂

The schedule of events and activities are located in the menu heading of this blog. I included links to the activities on the page titled “Excursions”. Some activities don’t require advance planning. However, if you are interested in going river rafting, or zipline I need a headcount in order to reserve the rafts. Prices for all activities are included. I will update as we get closer.

Chloe’s design was the winner. The T-shirt will be white (cheaper) and will cost $15. If you would like to order a T-shirt, complete the poll below.

Words from Robert….

Robert’s email was so awesome that I wanted to share it with everyone:

Comment: Just got connected to the L-J web site and the feeling is good.  Read Liline’s comments and likewise wish good time to all with great expectations on communal life style.  Sunday AM soup (Haitian style) will be one of my contributions.  Been at it for a little while:)  I may suggest sleeping under the stars for the boys, no sexism intended; story telling could bring back some memory of the mother land…A volley ball net would be great+ of course a BALL 🙂  Aside from the usual volunteering duties, I suggest 2 pairs of jeans, T shirts and basic sneakers (Sears style) for attendees; no need for 5th Ave style shoes.  Those who play besig (not me) could endeavor on show off their dexterity…Flea market browsing could keep a few on their toes: bring some cash; Sites visits could amuse some: get hold of touristy maps;  Finally, if Sunday church attendance is a must, plenty of denominations will gladly give attendance cards to show to St Peter later on, at the gates of heaven 🙂

Please forward comments and emails.  I will be more than happy to post them here.

And the winner is…..

Chloe!!!! Go Chloe!!!! Go Chloe~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!
Congratulations to Judith & Natalie for submitting there design.

If you failed to vote, and your choice wasn’t selected, OH WELL>>>>>>>>

I will get going on selecting a the company/person to print the shirts for us. The design is challenged by the multi colors of the actual t shirt but will do my best to pick one that is similar. I will be speaking with Chloe to finalized the transfer of the design to me…

Once again, Congrats to Chloe!!!!

Summertime…..and the living is easy….

I am counting the days to summer.  Although I love the Christmas season, there’s is something very uplifting about summer.  As a kid, summer meant days of sleeping in, lazy endless days filled with friends and absolutely very little obligations.  Now as an adult, even though summer no longer has the interruption of my life from being a student to being just a “non-student”, I still feel as if I am mentally transformed.  I don’t take things so seriously, my schedule is very laid back, and my brain has a harder time wrapping around obligations and duties.  I love the transformation that the children go through and as a family, we are all on a hiatus.  No homework, no test to worry about and no stressing.  We have the beach, the movies, the parks. We are limited only by our imaginations.

Upstate NY is going to be great over the days of the reunion.  Flashlights will be useful especially for night walks down the country road.  We will have campfires at night so bring your best skin-crawling, zombie apocalypse, spider-filled paranormal story to share.  If you’ve got talent and you want to sing, dance, tell a joke or two and want to entertain us, let me know.  There will be plenty of opportunities to showcase your talent.  It won’t be like a Night At The Apollo, but keep in mind that some talents of course can and should be left at home.

There will be lots of bugs- bugs everywhere.  The bugs will sound like hail hitting the windshield as you drive at night.  They infiltrate everywhere so don’t forget your Avon Skinsense (or whatever it is called), bug spray,  citronella candles, and a bug zapper to add to the entertainment.   The young kids (…in all of us) will get a kick at the sound  of bugs frying at night.

There will be so much to do, yet there will be plenty of nothing to do as well.  Feel free to find a lawn chairs (bring your own), deck space, grass, rocks, and tree stumps just sit on and enjoy the summer air with a cold glass of lemonade (or Johnny Walker…).  Upstate NY is beautiful in the summer.  Every thing is green and lush.  There are lakes and streams every where.    Although it will seem as if every truck has a shotgun in the cabin above the driver’s head, crime is low in Sullivan County.  I would be surprised if one of us didn’t run into a redneck during the time we will be there but generally, the people are extremely friendly and nice.  I lived in Sullivan County for 7 years and loved it.

We are going to be living “commune-style” so we are going to share all duties.  It may be best to volunteer early.  I need a coordinator to organize the duties so that the homes remain clean and undisturbed during our time there, both inside and out.  The owners will probably have neighbors looking out for them so eyes will be on us even if we don’t see them.  Fredi suggested a planned menu and I think it’s a great idea.  Enchild has volunteered for grill duty so all master chefs and wannabe chefs can showcase their talents & join him.  Let’s remember to have the young kids participate and get involved with the day-to- day-chores.

We will submit a grocery list.  Nearby there will be plenty of farmer’s markets to buy local produce.   There’s a WalMart within 30-45 min drive so shopping can be done locally if needed.   The food coordinator and I can work out the detail.  Let me know if you would prefer to bring the food or some of it or donate about $50 towards food.  I personally would prefer to give the cash.  I am into juicing and would love if someone had a juicer to bring so that I can demonstrate some quick easy smoothies during the nutrition talks.

This blogs offers you the opportunity to submit comments/feedbacks and even articles.  I would love to get feedbacks, suggestions and ideas.  It is OUR REUNION,  so please respond.  The reunion is going to be an awesome time and I can’t wait to see everyone.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE FOR THE T-SHIRT.  If you don’t know what I am talking about, please go to the menu bar and open the link to the T-shirts.
